Tips For Being In A Long Distance Relationship

Tips For Being In A Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships aren’t for everyone. They require patience, selflessness and understanding, and the time apart can be difficult. However long distance relationships can be extremely rewarding, especially if you are with someone who is perfect for you.

And if you’ve fallen for someone who lives far away, don’t worry; lots of people fall for people who don’t live in the same country as them! And you can certainly make the relationship work; all you need to do is put in the work.

Here are seven tips for people who are in a long distance relationship.

1. Tips For A Successful Long Distance Relationship: Make A Shared Calendar

If you and your date live in different time zones it can be difficult to schedule quality time together, but this is much easier if you set up a shared calendar. There are lots of free apps and websites you can use for this, and it means you can set up serious date nights every week. Feel free to both add your personal commitments to this schedule too (such as important work meetings), as this means you are less likely to double book – and it also makes it easier for both of you to support each other on a daily basis.

2. Ensure Travel Is Fair

If you are arranging a trip for the future, make sure travel and costs are fair. If they are getting a plane to visit you this time, offer to visit their hometown next time. Alternatively you could offer to chip in for travel costs, especially if it is an expensive flight.

3. Continue Doing Things For You

It is important to continue to focus on the things that matter to you. This could be a university offer that you dreamed of getting, or it could simply be a daily yoga session. Either way, make sure that you are still making time for the things that matter to you; if not, you may start to resent your partner and the relationship.

4. Set A Weekly Long Distance Relationship Standing Date

Do you and your partner both have one time of the week when you are always free? If so, consider setting up a weekly standing date where you can check in with each other. This consistency will help to strengthen the relationship – and it is always nice to establish a routine together.

5. Check In With Videos And Pictures

Break up the monotony of text messages and phone calls with funny videos and pictures of each other. This will make it feel like you are a big part of each other’s daily lives, and it will also make your partner feel closer to you. It is also always nice to see the face of the person you love!

6. Focus On The Good Things, Rather Than The Bad

Finally it is important to focus on the positive aspects of the relationship, rather than the negative aspects. Every day you get to spend together is a blessing and an opportunity, so spend time in the moment with each other (rather than thinking about how little time you have together). This can be difficult when the trip is ending, but try to remind yourself that you will see each other again.
