Taking The Plunge: How To Return To The Dating Scene

50% of marriages end in divorce, so a big part of the online dating scene is adults who are ready to get back out there after a tough split.

If you can relate to this, don’t worry; going through a divorce or a breakup may leave you feeling insecure and discouraged, but over time these feelings start to fade.

As they pass, you might find yourself becoming more confident and optimistic about the idea of dating. If you are ready to get out there and meet someone new, congratulations! Here are some tips to help.

1. Review Your Look and Style

If you haven’t been part of the dating scene for a while, it can be useful to review your look and style to make sure it is appealing to others. You don’t need to buy expensive designer outfits, but make sure your outfit is appropriate for the event – some outfits might seem too dressy or informal.

The most important thing is to make sure that your outfit reflects your personality. Don’t be afraid to wear a lot of colors if that is your style, or to wear jumpers every day; the person who likes you for you will be attracted to your unique style.

A smart pair of shoes can also make your whole outfit more attractive – no-one likes messed up, old shoes!

2. Leave The Past In The Past

It can be tempting to talk about previous relationships with your new date, but try to refrain from doing so for the first month or so, as your date probably won’t appreciate it – in fact, they may think that you are still in love with your ex, or that you are still heartbroken. Instead try to focus on finding common ground with your date. Do they enjoy football too? Do they like to travel?

If you can’t help yourself, it is probably too soon to be dating. Don’t rush anything and take your time.

3. Be Yourself

The most important dating tip is to just be yourself. Don’t worry about acting like someone else to impress a date; most people will see through the act anyway, so it doesn’t give you an advantage. It is also exhausting trying to be someone else all of the time!

Be yourself in a positive way; work on your flaws, embrace your good traits and make sure your date knows the genuine you. If they don’t like you, it isn’t anything to worry about – eventually you will find someone who loves everything about you.

4. How To Meet Other Singles

If you haven’t dated for a while, you may be unsure how to meet other singles. One of the best ways is online dating, which is a great method for anyone who is shy. You can also meet other singles at private parties, such as a friend’s BBQ. People are often more open and friendly at private parties, so this is a wonderful way to meet singles.

You can also try pubs, bars and classes (such as yoga or cooking classes). You can choose a class that interests you, and this way you are more likely to meet someone with similar interests.
