Melissa And Baz Get Engaged!

Melissa and Baz first matched on Date British Guys in 2021, and the pair recently got engaged. We decided to sit down with Melissa to find out more about their love story and wedding plans…

When did you first start talking?

“We first matched on DBG in October 2021, we hit it off immediately. After texting back and forth until the wee hours of the morning for a few days, we decided to cross over to WhatsApp. We shared voice messages, texts, videos, snippets of family recipes, our children and our pets.”

“Soon after that we had our first virtual date video call! From the day we first matched and said hello, we have been in constant, daily contact.”

That sounds wonderful! When did you first meet?

“We spent our first long weekend together in February 2022. By the time Baz finally stepped off the plane, we’d both completely fallen for each other, although we’d both individually chosen to hold back fully sharing that until we’d met in person. With that first hug in the airport, we both knew that all we’d felt over the months getting to know each other from afar was real.”

What do you love about each other?

“It was important for each of us to find someone who was also a parent; we are both very involved with our children, so finding that commonality was an early bonding point, among other shared interests!”

“We took time exploring many different topics early on, asking each other deep questions, starting conversations eagerly, anticipating and enjoying how they unfolded. In this way, we quickly learned how to laugh together; to enjoy playful debate. We have consciously supported each other by being flexible and steadfast despite being apart, which is, of course, challenging right now because we miss each other terribly.”

What are your plans for the future?

“A simple wedding, one home, one family! We dream and talk daily of finally having all our children under one roof.”

What is your favourite memory together?

“There are so many that it’s hard to choose just one favorite memory, but I will never forget when Baz got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Our engagement was the most romantic moment of my life, and answering him was the surest I’ve ever been.”

Do you have any advice for singles on DBG?

“Be open, be playful, don’t hesitate to be the first one to make a move, ask loads of questions, don’t be afraid to say no (and also don’t be afraid to say yes!). Be true to yourself, and you’ll find the right match. There might just be a wonderfully romantic adventure awaiting you if you can do that.”
