The DateBritishGuys team are happy to share another story about an engaged couple who met through our site. Alie, who lived in North Carolina, and Jon, who lives in Scotland, first started talking to each other at the beginning of 2016.

John spontaneously signed up to Date British Guys a few days before he started talking to Alie.

John: “It was the classic thought of “ah, why not?” I was going to see how things went for about a couple of weeks and take it from there. It didn’t take that long!”

What do you love about each other?

John: “Alie really is the other half of me. She came to Scotland after Easter, and I can tell you that I’ve never been as nervous as I was when I was waiting at the airport for her!”

“But as soon as she came through the door, all those fears dissolved. It just felt right. We both felt comfortable with each other almost immediately. When it was time for her to leave, I was gutted. I just knew that I wanted to be with her. In the summer Alie came back over for 3 months, and when she went back we both vowed that this would be the last time we would be apart.”

“We laugh every day. Of course we have our blips, but it doesn’t last long as we end up laughing about something! She just makes me feel pure and complete love, and makes me want to give her the very best in life. She truly is my soulmate.”

Alie: “John is absolutely the sweetest man I know. He is hilarious and makes me laugh every day. He is my best friend, I can talk to him about anything and feel completely comfortable around him.”

“We always have fun together; it doesn’t matter if we are traveling somewhere or just enjoying a quiet night in! John supports me, listens to me and will always tell me what he thinks, even if I don’t listen to his advice!”

“It sounds cliché to say he is my other half, but it’s true. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him, waking up with him, seeing his face walk through the door at the end of the day, cuddling on the sofa watching television, experiencing life together with my best friend.”

The pair got engaged on Christmas day, and the proposal was extremely romantic – even though it involved pie in the face.

John: “I had bought the ring but I didn’t tell her. I hid it in a travel bag that I bought as a Christmas present for her. I spent Christmas with her family in North Carolina, and no-one knew that I wasgoing to propose, apart from her brother-in-law, who I got to record her reaction.”

“I bought her a joke gift, too – a “pie face” game, and gave her that first. Alie’s face, trying to appear happy in front of her family was priceless! I had to pull out the big guns though, and gave her the bag with the ring. Luckily she loved the ring!”

What are your plans for the future?

John: “We are getting married at Edinburgh Castle in July. When we were looking at venues, I only went along to say we had looked – I didn’t see us getting hitched in there, but as soon as we saw it, we knew it was the place. Let’s hope that the weather holds up!”

Alie: “After a year in Scotland we are going to make the move to North Carolina – as long as Trump does not destroy America, fingers crossed!”

John: “I can’t wait for Alie to experience a Scottish winter first! Thank you very much Date British Guys. We are so happy you cannot believe it!”
