How To Make A Good Impression On The First Date

How To Make A Good Impression On The First Date

When it comes to the first date, many of us worry about doing something wrong and making a bad first impression. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, so that makes it extra important to get it right the first time.

Here are 6 ways to make sure that you make a great first impression on your date.

1. How To Make A Good Impression On The First Date: Use Your Nerves To Your Advantage

Feeling scared and sweaty? Use it to your advantage! When you are nervous, you are more aware of other people and your surroundings. This heightened awareness means you are less likely to interrupt the other person or talk over them – two easy ways to make a terrible impression. Embrace your nerves and understand that they will make you a more attentive, aware date.

2. Keep Your Phone In Your Pocket

This may seem obvious, but lots of people frequently spend time on their phones during a date. It comes across as rude and inconsiderate, and your date may assume that you are not interested in them.

Keep your phone in your pocket, and only use it if you really need to; even just sending a few texts to your friends can make you seem distracted and disinterested!

3. Think Of A Few Things To Talk About

No-one wants to go on a date with someone who spends the whole night talking about their job, so make sure you have thought of a few subjects that you feel comfortable talking about. Consider talking about your passions, hobbies and current events – all great subjects when you are getting to know someone!

4.Try Not To Talk Too Much (Or Too Little)

Both you and your date should be talking a similar amount, as that is how natural, un-forced conversations flow. While it will never be a perfect 50/50 split, it can be very off-putting to go on a date with someone who talks far too much – or not enough.

If you are loud by nature, remind yourself to ask your date lots of questions so they get the opportunity to speak. If you are shy, prepare a few personal, funny stories in advance, and aim to tell at least three of them.

5. Wear An Outfit That You Love

Studies have found that people are more confident and upbeat when they wear an outfit they love, so this is a simple way to make sure your first impression is a good one.

6. Have Fresh Breath

No-one likes bad breath – especially when it is someone who they are on a date with! Always brush your teeth before you go on a date, and try to avoid smelly food like fish or garlic. If you don’t have the chance to brush your teeth before you go on a date, have some minty chewing gum to freshen your breath.
