Do’s and Don’ts for a Summer Romance

Do’s and Don’ts for a Summer Romance

Summer is the perfect time to meet someone; there are always BBQs and house parties, and the weather is beautiful. If you get a summer romance right, it can be amazing – think of the songs, movies and novels that have been inspired by summer flings!

However, it is important to keep a few things in mind if you are interested in having a summer fling. Here are the do’s and don’ts for a summer romance.

1. Do keep an open mind

Summer may be the perfect time to find a date, but you have to be proactive – don’t just wait for someone to walk into your life. Spend time with your friends and new people, and try to always say yes to plans, from pool parties to a walk in the park. This means you will definitely have a great summer, and it means you are more likely to bump into someone amazing.

2. Don’t pressure yourself to find someone

Summer is about enjoying yourself, not stressing because you can’t find a date. Don’t worry too much if you haven’t met anyone yet – this worry will make it even harder for you to meet people you genuinely like, as you are more likely to say yes to anyone who asks you out, rather than someone you are actually interested in.

3. Do be honest about what you want

A summer romance could just be a fling, or it could be the beginning of a long-term relationship, so you should make your intentions clear from the start. If you aren’t looking for anything long-term, say this near the beginning of the relationship so you don’t cause hurt or upset to the other person. If you are interested in something long-term, this is worth bringing up after a few dates when you are closer to them.

4. Don’t get clingy

If you meet someone great, take it slow and get to know them. It can be tempting to push the relationship forward, but remember that you have the whole summer to get to know each other. If it is meant to be, it will happen – you don’t need to force it. Instead focus on enjoying yourself and the developing relationship.

5. Do make the most of the relationship!

It is summer; the sun is shining, there isn’t a cloud in the sky and there a BBQs everywhere. Make sure you focus on having a fantastic time, and this way you will have a memorable summer with a fun romance – perfect!
