Are You Cut Out For A Long Distance Relationship?

Are You Cut Out For A Long Distance Relationship?

Long distance relationships are common in the modern world – but you do have what it takes to be in one yourself?

Some people find it easy to deal with the struggles of a long distance relationship, while other people feel lonely and isolated. Thankfully it is possible to work through this, but it is definitely harder for some people than it is for others.

Here are some of the main pros and cons of a long distance relationship, so you can work out if you want to be in one.

The Pros And Cons Of A Long Distance Relationship

1. It Can Feel Underwhelming When You First See Each Other

If you spend most of your time without your partner, it is easy to build up every opportunity you have together – but in reality lots of people feel a slight sense of awkwardness when they first see their long distance partner. This is totally normal, and the feeling should pass quickly, but try not to feel disappointed if there is a sense of awkwardness when you first met.

2. You Will Make The Most Of The Time You Have Together

One of the main advantages of a long distance relationship is that you will make the most of the time you do have together. After not seeing each other for a while you will both feel grateful to be in each other’s presence, so you will want to enjoy every single minute that you have together.

3. Time Differences Can Cause Problems

If you are dating someone who lives in a different time zone you will have to schedule phone calls and video chats that work for both of you. It can be hard to find times that you are both free, but you should still try to schedule video dates. It may not feel very spontaneous or romantic, but it means that you will still be able to video chat every week.

4. You Get To Spend Time In A New Location

You will get to visit your date’s city, which means you will always have a second place to explore together. This means there will always be new places to visit!

5. It Can Be Expensive

If you date someone who lives far away, it will cost a lot to meet up. This means you won’t be able to visit every weekend, but it does show that you are both very committed to each other. After all, there aren’t many people who are willing to spend hundreds for one weekend with their crush!

6. You Will Have Independence

The time alone will give you the chance to focus on the other things that are important to you (such as your friends, your career or your hobbies). This means that it will be easier for you to maintain a healthy relationship.
