1. Things You Didn’t Know About Tom Hardy: He Has A Dog Called Mad Max
Tom Hardy had a dog named Mad Max – but he didn’t buy the dog after starring in the movie. He was actually given the dog when he was seventeen, and at the time he had never heard of the film; the previous owner had named him Mad Max! He loved the dog for many years, and it passed away the year he was cast in Mad Max.
2. His Mentor Is Gary Oldman
Most actors have someone they look up to, and for Tom Hardy that person is Gary Oldman. He has said many times that Oldman is his hero, and it would be his dream to work alongside him. The pair have now starred in four movies together, so we are very happy his dream came true!
3. He Has Been Expelled Twice
Tom Hardy wasn’t the best student; in fact, he was expelled not once, but twice! Once for theft, and then later for bad behaviour.
4. He Lived With Drug Addiction
Tom Hardy first tried sniffing glue when he was twelve, and by thirteen he was regularly using hallucinogens. By sixteen he was an alcoholic using cocaine, and he continued to struggle with drug use throughout his early twenties. Thankfully he decided to turn his life around, and he has now been sober for more than ten years.
5. He Wanted To Be A Rapper

Tom Hardy is currently an Ambassador for the UK Prince’s Trust Charity, and he is also homeless patron in the city of London.
7. He Used To Be A Model
You probably won’t be too surprised to hear that Tom Hardy used to be a model! He started modelling in 1998, but quickly switched over to acting.
8. He Has Lots Of Tattoos
Tom Hardy has a lot of tattoos. His first ever tattoo was a leprechaun, and he still regularly gets tattoos; in fact, he says he likes to get a new tattoo for every film he stars in.

Finally Tom loves the ballet. He goes to see the Nutcracker every year, and he is a big supporter of the English National Ballet.
