5 Reasons Why It’s Better To Be Single Rather Than With The Wrong Person

Some people dislike being single. They imagine that couples have much happier lives, and they aspire to find a relationship. However, not all relationships are amazing – just because a couple are always smiling in the photos that they upload to social media, it doesn’t mean that their relationship is smooth sailing. In fact, quite a lot of relationships are negative and unhealthy!

Being single is much better than being in an unhappy relationship, or being with the wrong person. Finding love shouldn’t be your goal; finding happiness should be. Your main priority should be your own happiness – regardless of your relationship status.

In honour of singles on Valentine’s Day, here are 5 reasons why it is better to be single rather than with the wrong person.

1. You Don’t Have To Deal With Jealousy

Most relationships contain an element of jealousy, and sometimes it can become a big problem. It’s no fun being the jealous partner, but it is just as bad to be the partner who has to constantly re-assure the jealous partner. It takes up a lot of energy and it leaves people feeling low and drained. As a single person you don’t have to worry about why your partner is ignoring your texts. Instead you can focus that energy into another (more productive) area of your life!

2. You Don’t Have To Spend Time With Someone Who Doesn’t Fulfil You

Sometimes relationships aren’t mutually fulfilling, and one partner can feel like they make all the effort. This can lead to resentment and low self-esteem, and over time it causes both partners to feel unhappy with each other. Instead of ending the relationship the pair stay together, but it is better to be on your own than with someone who doesn’t fulfil you. Some people are scared about the idea of being alone, but most single people are surrounded by people who love and cherish them – and they don’t have to deal with a partner who they resent.

3. You Have Freedom

One of the best things about being single is the amount of freedom you have. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want to do it. You don’t need to check in with someone before you decide to go out with your friends, and you don’t need to worry about being guilt tripped. If you want to go out for dinner, you can. If you want to order Thai food, you can. If you want to book a spontaneous holiday, you can!

4. You Can Meet The Right Person

If you are in a relationship with the wrong person it will be difficult for you to meet the right person as your attention is already focused on someone else. As you are single you are available to start dating anyone wonderful who comes into your life – so keep your eyes peeled for Mr/Miss. Right!

5. You Have Time To Decide What You Want In A Relationship

When people are single they get the chance to focus all of their attention on their own needs and requirements. This gives you the chance to learn more about yourself and what you want in a relationship. When you do meet someone that you like, you will be aware of what you will and won’t stand for – and this makes it more likely that you will end up with the right person, rather than the wrong person. So enjoy the single life for now, as you never know when it will end!
